Find out what it means to me...

As a child I was enrolled in karate for a semester. I can distinctly remember the wooden floor of the gymnasium we met in and the stale smell accompanied with the florescent lights blinking in the high ceiling.
I was instructed by my master to bow upon entering the gym and then once again when meeting your opponent.
I was very concerned why I would need to bow. My mom explained to me it's a sign of respect. Especially before you spar with someone you need to tell them, "no hard feelings".

As an adult I've learned to love. I put away childish things (1Corinthians 13), and I learned to love selflessly out of my Maker's heart.

Do I fail?                                                                            Yes, quite frequently.

Does this love in me?                                   Not if I draw from the Source.

As I've written in this poem I fail, and when I operate out of my selfish love...I'm not patient, kind, hoping for the best, etc. Selfish love fails.

Now I transition to further understand respect.
Love has a chapter in the Bible, but how do I respect people? If I type into google: "What is respect?" This is what I get:

re·spect/riˈspekt/

Noun:
A feeling of deep admiration for someone or something elicited by their abilities, qualities, or achievements.
Verb:
Admire (someone or something) deeply, as a result of their abilities, qualities, or achievements.
Synonyms:
noun.  regard - esteem - reverence - deference - consideration
verb.  honour - honor - esteem - regard - venerate - revere

Is it just a feeling? I wouldn't think so, because love isn't. Love is an action, a choice. Is respect the other side on the same coin?

What does respect mean to you? How do you know someone respects you?
