Seven wants![]() Today's blog challenge is 7 wants. I will not post on the desires God places on my heart, but instead I will post on things I want that I don't need. All of these things I am aware they are silly and unnecessary and I hold them loosely, not hard-core pursuing any of it. 1) I want to be revered. I want to be respected and know that other's see me as wonderfully created. 2) I want a house like Dave Hasz's. Brick with a fireplace. A quiver-full. 3) I want chocolate. Not too much, but very often. 4) I want a smokin' hot husband, and I'd like him soon (ya know...). Okay, okay...call me shallow. That's fine, but you know you want an attractive mate too. 5) I want to hit people when they do something stupid, or run into them with my car. 6) I want to be wealthy. 7) I want to sleep-in...much and often. Are these silly? Meh, maybe but look at this serious list, and how it corresponds: 1) pride 2) envy 3) gluttony 4) lust 5) anger 6) greed 7) sloth ...Look familiar? Now the "seven deadly sins" aren't lined out in the Bible, but I think they are the basis for a lot of our wants, and our sins. Are the first seven things I listed bad? I don't think so. They can be if I pursue it before I seek the kingdom of God. Just keep it in check Beloved. Ready for some controversy? .... ... ..how 'bout now? I think reading your Bible can be just as much as an idol as my ideal of a smokin' hot husband. <3 It's about the heart. <3 Really...If you heart behind reading the Bible is your acts, your knowledge, your good works, you performing miracles? Who's getting the glory? Who is it for? Is it for you? Which brings me to my current thought of the foundation of ALL SIN. (yes, all. as in...an absolute) I firmly believe that all sin is rooted in selfishness. That's a blog all on it's own. Feel free to let that settle in and think about it. I'd love to talk about it with you too :) |

If you've ever read humility by Andrew Murray, he makes a very good case that pride is the source of all sin. And it's very easy to see how selfishness comes from pride... thinking you deserve something, you're too good for something, or similar thoughts.

ReplyDeleteGood point, I remember having a similar conversation with someone when I first wrote this.
It depends on your specific definitions of both pride and selfishness.
In this post (and generally) I consider them one and the same.
